McCaigs Tower sits above the town centre, overlooking the bay. With Dunollie Castle, a ruin, sitting on a hill to the North of the town, and the viewpoint at Pulpit Hill to the South of the town, a steep climb, but worth it for the view.
Oban is known as the "Gateway to the Isles", with ferries sailing to the islands of Mull, Lismore, Colonsay, Islay, Coll, Tiree, Barra and South Uist.
In 2007 a Seaplane service was started from Oban to Glasgow.
Oban has one of the oldest distilleries in Scotland, founded in 1794, and has tours available on a daily basis.
The Oban War and Peace Museum is also worth a visit.
Oban has a Sports/Leisure Centre, 18 hole golf course, and a large variety of shops, and numerous places for eating out.
